Tears of joy trickled down the cheeks only to be frozen on the parapet quiet unimaginable! The place is Drass, the second coldest inhabited region in the world. Located in the Kargil district of Jammu & Kashmir, Drass Valley starts from the base of the Zoji - la pass, also known as the 'Gateway to Ladakh'.
It is the land of famous Kargil war and the glorious history of Indian Army. It was year 1999 when Pakistani troops intruded into the Ladakh region underhand. The physical landmarks of war as Drass sector, Mushko valley, to lo-ling and tiger hill attained an epic status by the time war ended with distinction Indian Victory. Later, Drass War Memorial and Brigade War Valley were contrived to toast the martyrs of Kargil war.
It is not sufficient enough to explore Drass, 18 kilometers away from Drass, there is Draupadi Kund named after the tragic female queen Draupadi of Mahabharata era who was the wife of five Pandava’s. It is a belief that she took her final bath before attaining Nirvana in Himalayas. Besides, Mushko Valley is also the must visit place notable for its heterogeneity of wild flowers.
